Foley Evaluation

How did you plan producing the sound for your film.

When planning the sound for our film, we watched through the clip multiple times and then made a list in google docs of each sound we wanted to put in while watching again. We decided it was important to be very thorough in this process so as not to create more work for ourselves in future.

What problems or challenges did you encounter?

When we were first using Adobe Audition we found it quite confusing as neither of us had used it or seen it being used before so we required a bit of help even for some of the simple stuff like importing the sound clips. Another thing we found tricky was keeping our clips organised and keeping track of them within Audition.

How effective were your solutions?

When we encountered a problem we asked people around us for help. This worked effectively enough.

Did this solo task make you consider FMP? If so how?

This task did make me consider my FMP, because I had been thinking of trying to make some music for my project, and getting to grips with some of the basics of audition helped me gain some confidence in the idea.

What did you learn?

I learned some of the basics of audition, including adjusting volumes, fading in and out, and layering sound. I think that I had previously underestimated how much work went into foley for clips. There were many sounds that were only used on screen for a few seconds and yet without them the scene was entirely lacking. I think I worked well with my partner as we both contributed fully to the task and I think we did well in the planning stages which meant we had a lot of good content.
