I chose to do my presentation on Guillermo del Toro because I felt that his films all have a very distinct style and would therefore give me content to talk about. I also really enjoyed his film The Shape of Water (2017) so I wanted to research the rest of his repertoire further. I gathered most of my information from del Toro’s profile on IMdb, but then found further details by focusing on a particular film of his: Pan’s Labyrinth. I mostly used visuals in my presentation, the only writing being labels or titles. I decided to do this so as not to overload the viewer with information as I spoke over the presentation, just providing images and gifs as examples of what I was talking about.
I felt that my presentation went reasonably well, however there was definitely room for improvement. I think my main issue was that my presentation was shorter than I expected it to be. This meant I kind of awkwardly came to an end very quickly instead of having a proper conclusion. I also mainly just read directly from my writing, rather than freely talking which probably made it a little less engaging and personal. My main strength in presenting I would say was the content of what I was saying. I offered my own opinions, as well as providing context and examples for what I was saying, so that there was a higher chance of full comprehension from the audience. I also think the colour scheme of my presentation was a good choice, as I decided to use a dark colour that would fit with the colour palette del Toro uses in his images.
